Today we went to two (and a half) wineries. We think two is the optimal number to visit in one day. Our first stop was Ridge. We’ve had a few of their wines at home and wanted to see what other wines where available at the winery. The setting was beautiful once again. Napa and Sonoma spend time and money on their tasting rooms. The tasting rooms in Willamette Valley are nowhere near what the tasting rooms are like here. Of course it was over 100 degrees when we were there last year so that might have had something to do with it.

We had plenty of time to make our way to Bella, our next tasting. Ledson was our favorite tasting experience of the trip but Bella comes in second. It was unexpected. Our AirBnb host told us about Bella so we booked the tasting that came with fresh made pizzas. We were seated under 100 year old olive trees overlooking the valley with 107 year old Zinfandel vines to the side of us. There was a guy playing live music, not to loud and a good collection of covers. It was a very relaxing way to spend the afternoon. They were in no hurry to have us leave and we enjoyed all of their wines except the Rose. Some even made it into our suitcase to bring home and it might be a wine club we join if we still like the wine once we try it at home.

We stopped by Pedrochelli after Bella and probably should have just went back to Healdsburg. We were not really in the mood for more wine and the host was brand new (Maybe 1st day on the job!) She did not know much, simply poured the wine. We did not like anything and drank just a sip of all the wines we tried with the exception of the final pour – port with chocolate. That was good, but it’s hard to mess that up.
For our last dinner we went to the Rooftop of Matheson. The main dining room at Matheson is a 3 star Michelin restaurant but we did not feel like being that fancy. Instead we ordered cocktails on the roof, overlooking Healdsburg Square and ordered a few tapas. They were delicious – the creation of the talented chefs downstairs.

We had a wonderful time tasting wine in Sonoma but did not want to do another tasting before heading home. Instead we decided to head into San Francisco and walk around before going to the airport.

Fog just lifting as we drove across the bridge. Until next time…
